Recreation Program
The Recreation
Program at Capital City believes in creating a
fun, fitness experience while learning the
fundamentals of gymnastics. People of all ages
are able to come into the gym and be physically
active while exploring different kinds of
movement such as jumping, twisting, swinging,
climbing and springing. Gymnastics improves
strength, flexibility, fine motor skills,
balance and coordination while having fun. The
skills learned at gymnastics benefits each
individual when participating in all other
sports.
Each gymnast
involved in recreational gymnastics at CCGC is
encouraged to reach their own potential. We
believe that gymnastics teaches children that
they can succeed in things they at first thought
they could not do and aids in building
confidence and self-esteem. Recreational
gymnastics is intended to be fun and make
children feel good about themselves. The skills
and determination young gymnasts learn can
benefit them in all aspects of their lives. We
encourage, in all participants, the development
of personal character, good sportsmanship,
honesty, courage, persistence, and dedication.
The Capital
City Recreational Gymnastics Program offers an
extensive program of classes for young children
including Tumblebugs (age 12 to 24 months),
Parent and Tot classes (age 2 to 3 years), and
Tot ( age 4 to 5 years). For those young
children who demonstrate skill and enthusiasm in
the sport of gymnastics we offer Super Tot and
Elite Petites classes.
For children
over the age of six, we offer the CanGym badge
program. The CanGym badge program was created
for boys and girls ages 6 and up by Gymnastics
Canada. CanGym is a progressive program that is
universal throughout most gymnastics clubs in
Canada. It enables your child to earn badges for
their gymnastics achievement in the presence of
their qualified instructor. It focuses on the
fundamentals of gymnastics while incorporating
fitness and fun. There are 14 different colored
badges in the CANGYM program. Each badge
consists of approximately 30 different skills.
Program skills have been selected to ensure a
clear progression from one badge to the next,
leading to the key skills that are contained in
the GOLD badge. The key skills in this program
can be considered "building blocks" for more
advanced gymnastics, but can also stand alone as
excellent recreational level skills.
Capital City
strives to offer a wide range of gymnastics
experiences for all interests and levels. For
those gymnasts who are seeking more of a
challenge, we offer Achievement Classes. We also
offer Cheerleading programs and Trampoline and
Tumbling programs from Beginner to Advanced
levels. We offer a variety of different Drop In
sessions for those who want to stay fit and
practice skills in a safe supervised
environment. Adult/Teen Drop-In is offered twice
a week and family Drop-In is offered every
Sunday.
